About the Artist
Bah Saluji
Bah Saluji a/l Yeok So Alu is a Semai Orang Asli artist from Slim River, Perak. He started exploring art at the age of eight and has since been striving for excellence in this field. Saluji works primarily with watercolors as his method of choice. His art depicts a glimpse into the life of the indigenous people of Malaysia.
'Biar Pete de Besuara' was written by Lai Bwe Yuoong and all the pictures were illustrated by Bah Saluji. This children's illustrated book for lower primary school age is the first of its kind in three languages, i.e. Semai, English, and Chinese. This project is funded by UNDEF in collaboration with Malaysian CARE and Koperasi Sengoi Pribumi Perak.
This is Saluji's second book. His first book, 'Nenek Dengan Yeok Luat' was published two years ago, in collaboration with The Bridge Communication.

Indigenous Community Land Protection through Empowerment of Local Action Groups in Malaysia
One of the biggest challenges the indigenous people in Malaysia are facing today is the loss of their land and livelihoods to encroachment or outright dispossession. The Orang Asli’s cultural territories are not recognized and protected.
To address this challenge, this project aims to improve the recognition of the customary rights through:
1) strengthening of indigenous organizations and networks;
2) capacity building and;
3) public advocacy. The planning and implementation of this project is done jointly by Malaysian CARE and Koperasi Sengoi Pribumi Perak, a Perak-based Semai indigenous cooperative consisting of 30 village branches.

- Proceeds from all paintings will support efforts towards creating awareness of Orang Asli rights, specifically customary land rights, indigenous language, and preservation of Orang Asli traditional knowledge.
